My apologies for that. This year I shall try to keep the posts coming at regular intervals.

Lots of things have been happening for us at HYPA. We have gone global and there is now HYPA in Sydney Australia. I have moved to Sydney to head up the new venture and I must say I'm loving the people, city and certainly the weather. We are open and available for work, so if you are in need of some motion graphics then get in touch!

I had a meeting today with John Dickinson of Motionworks . John is a really great guy, and very talented too. It was real fun to meet up with him and discuss motion graphics, animation and all that stuff over a coffee. John does some fantastic training for After Effects and his work is top notch. We had a few ideas of some projects that we may well work on together. More about that in future postings.

I was lucky enough to have a few artworks selected for Los Logos 4 by Die Gelstalten Verlag. Look out for it at your local bookstore. It has some fantastic work.

At HYPA we are currently working on some graphics for the BBC. The program is called Explore and is already on air in the UK. Watch out for it Sunday nights, BBC2.

We are also involved in a channel rebrand which we cannot mention right now. More about that at a later date. It is certainly making full use of the MoGraph module.

I'll be back again soon with some more tips & tricks, so come back often. . . This time, I will too!

Matrix Object, Thinking Particles and Geometry

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_Yql0wMV94LA/SBjcZctVXdI/AAAAAAAAAAk/Dt3iZQXLvBI/s400/CINEMA+4D001.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5195144499933044178" />

A question was raised on fxphd about the different ways to generate geometry for Thinking Particles if you have created them using the MoGraph Matrix object.

You can do it several ways. You can create a Particle Geometry Object then create the particle geometry using Xpresso and the PShape node.

Alternatively you can use the Cloner Object and clone onto the Matrix Object.

I've created a couple of simple scenes that illustrate this. I've used two particle groups and then a simple Xpresso setup for each. You need to animate all the separate parts of the logo, you'll need to create an ExtrudeNURBS for each individual spline. There could be quite a few splines to deal with. Here's a quick tip that shows you how to generate an individual ExtrudeNURBS for each spline you have.

Place all the splines under one ExtrudeNURBS. Name the splines appropriately.

Then click the hierarchal checkbox in the ExtrudeNURBS Object tab.

Once you've done this, adjust any parameters on the ExtrudeNURBS that you want to.

If you then press 'c' or choose Functions > Make Editable. The hierarchy will change and you'll be left with an individual ExtrudeNURBS for each spline. The ExtrudeNURBS will take their name from the spline and all the parameters you adjusted will be identical on each one.

Here's a quick movie showing you the technique. Quite a simple trick but if you didn't know it then hopefully you've found it useful.

Thanks
Tim

edit : here's a link to a quicktime as the blogger movie is far to small, sorry about that.

Easy Extrudes

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v24.nonxt2.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3Dac55b3b644899cae%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1331347304%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D4B6EB97C10450D1FF96DBA220CA08BBEDAAEFB91.5BE9018870B922CA20EF930B99D5E003E9CE23F7%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3Dac55b3b644899cae%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3DuVzQI21otVYwoRdE31hIRL85Ahk&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

Global

<img style="cursor:pointer; So watch out for tips and tricks from me appearing here.

In case you didn't know. I've been teaching a course over at fxphd.
